Case Study

Sampling

For the launch of Kinder Tronky in Australia, D2C designed and built the Hybrid Sampling Station: a first-of-its-kind in-store sampling unit combining the coverage of roaming demos with the functionality of a static display.

Challenge

For Kinder Tronky, sampling was the right mechanic to drive trial, but traditional options forced a trade-off: static units offered functionality at the cost of reach; roaming trays offered reach at the cost of everything else. Ferrero needed both – without the budget to match.

Idea

D2C created the Hybrid Sampling Station – a purpose-built unit that gave brand ambassadors the freedom to roam an entire store whilst retaining the branded display space, digital screen, and data capture capability of a full static setup.

Execution

The lightweight, health-and-safety-approved unit featured lockable wheels, a removable drip tray, and an onboard power bank with rotatable tablet screen – enabling TVCs, promotions, and shopper data capture on the move. It was deployed across 195 stores nationally with trained brand ambassadors reaching shoppers at multiple points throughout each store.

Result

Ferrero’s sales targets were significantly exceeded, Kinder Tronky secured its place on shelf across all retailers, and Australia became the global benchmark for the brand. The Hybrid Sampling Station has since been repurposed for other brands – continuing to deliver value well beyond the original campaign.
